Summary:
Speech therapy is known as a multidisciplinary science. B. Maisonny in his book Oral and Written Language (1986) defines it as the study and re-correction of voice, speech, and oral and written language disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. Speech therapy is pronounced in France and Canada, specifically in the province of Quebec and Algeria, and is a term of Greek origin meaning voice rehabilitation. In Egypt, the term "conversation rehabilitation" is used, while in Belgium and French-speaking countries, the term "logopedics" is also used, which has Greek origins and means language education. In Anglo-Saxon countries, the term "speech therapy" is used. Speech and communication disorders have been known for millions of years, but the science that deals with them has recently emerged compared to other sciences. Speech therapy began in Europe as applications and studies in language disorder rehabilitation conducted by doctors and linguists, gradually developing into an independent and autonomous scientific discipline, where specialists can evaluate, diagnose, treat, and research without subordination to any other specialty.
Speech therapy has developed like many other sciences over time and with the evolution of society and progress in various fields such as medicine, psychology, linguistics, and technological progress. In this course, we will delve into this specialization and try to learn about the history and beginnings of speech therapy in the world and in our country, Algeria. We will also explore the areas in which speech therapy is concerned, the related sciences, the roles or tasks of the speech therapy specialist, and the areas of their practice
