What I have understood from the chapter Classroom Management taken from:
Teach English as a foreign language | By David Reddell
From this unit, I understood that classroom management is not only about controlling the class, but also about the teacher’s manner and the way she communicates with students. An effective teacher adapts her language to the students’ level so that instructions are clear and not confusing. This does not mean speaking very slowly or treating students as if they are not intelligent, but rather simplifying language and using familiar expressions.
I also learned that gestures and demonstrations are very important, especially when students do not fully understand verbal instructions. Instead of only giving orders, the teacher should show what is expected. In addition, teacher talk should be limited and well graded, because speaking too much can confuse learners.
Overall, this unit helped me understand that good classroom management depends on clear language, appropriate interaction, and a respectful teaching manner that supports students’ understanding and participation.
Lecture 7 | pre-lecture question :
whole class teaching between advantages and drawbacks
Teaching has many advantages and some drawbacks. It helps students learn new things, develop skills, and receive guidance and support. Teachers also can motivate students and make learning easier through explanations and examples. However, teaching also has limitations for instance: students may rely on teachers so much, or a teaching style might not work for everyone. overall, teaching is very important, but understanding its strengths and weaknesses helps improve learning.
