Lecture 05:

1) In what ways should teachers keep developing themselves professionally and personally throughout their careers?

Teachers should engage in continuous professional and personal development to stay effective in the classroom. Professionally, they need to update their knowledge of teaching methods, assessment strategies, and technological tools through workshops, training programs, conferences, and peer collaboration. They should also reflect on their teaching practices, seek feedback, and adapt their approaches to meet learners’ changing needs. Personally, teachers should work on improving communication skills, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness to build positive relationships with students. Maintaining a growth mindset, staying motivated, and developing time-management and stress-management skills also help them remain productive and balanced throughout their careers.

2) Apart from following the textbook, what other responsibilities do teachers have to ensure successful learning?

Beyond using the textbook, teachers have several essential responsibilities. They must create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and reduces anxiety. They should differentiate instruction to address diverse learning styles and abilities, design additional materials or activities to reinforce concepts, and integrate real-life examples to make lessons meaningful. Teachers are also responsible for monitoring students’ progress, giving constructive feedback, and communicating with parents when necessary. Additionally, they must promote critical thinking, manage classroom behavior effectively, and motivate learners to develop autonomy and confidence in their language abilities.
